 Emily Velotta, MD

Here is a little more about me and our clinic. Enjoy!

What I do…

I love the eye and my patients!  I provide comprehensive eye examinations for adults. I am an opthalmologist, which means I diagnose and treat medical diseases and disorders of the eye, as well as perform surgery on the eyelids and front part of the eye.  I specialize in small-incision cataract surgery.  My goal is to give personalized care to every patient.

Education

I grew up in Libertyville, IL and graduated from Libertyville High School.  From there, I followed our family tradition (my 2 older sisters) and ran cross country and track at Purdue University.  I received a bachelor’s degree with highest distinction, and decided medicine was my primary interest.  Four years later, I got my MD degree from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine here in Chicago.  Following graduation I completed my internship at St Joseph Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, in general Medicine and Surgery.  I then specialized, completing my residency in ophthalmology at the Loyola University Medical Center and Hines Veterans Administration Hospital.  I was Chief Resident from 2007-2008.

Experience

I have been in private practice since 2008.  I  perform over two hundred surgeries annually. I perform surgery for cataract, glaucoma (minimally invasive), and the eyelid.  I do eye lasers for after-cataracts and diabetes, but this time I do not perform LASIK.  Instead, I have a working partnership with the Kraff Eye Institute in downtown Chicago.  Dr. Kraff performs the procedure, and I do the medical pre- and post-operative care.  It’s a great partnership for everyone, especially patients who get expert surgery and nearby follow-up care. I am currently on staff at Advocate Condell Hospital.

Accreditation & Affiliations

I am certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.  I am a member of the American Medical Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology, and American Academy of Ophthalmic Executives and hold medical licenses in Illinois and Wisconsin.

Other Interests…..

I play guitar and enjoy drawing and eating sushi (not at the same time).  I love snorkeling and hiking on vacation, and have travelled to every continent except Antarctica.  I love cats and have 1 hairless sphynx.  My spare time is spent mostly with family, and I am fortunate enough to have my entire family in the northern suburbs.
