What is iStent Inject?

istent Inject is a new treatment for mild to moderate glaucoma. It is a microstent which is placed in the drainage system of the eye which helps to lower eye pressure. Lowering the eye pressure is the goal of glaucoma treatment to stop further advancement of vision loss. This is either a stand-alone procedure or a procedure done at time of cataract surgery. The stents are extremely small and cannot be seen once inserted in the eye. There is no pain associated with this procedure, although some bleeding inside the eye does occur within the first 24 hours. Vision will be blurry for the first few days following the procedure, but then resolves or improves. Many patients are able to stop at least one of their glaucoma drops with successful surgery.
